Internship Opportunities

The interns with Tuscaloosa Christian Counseling consist of graduate level students in the final stages of The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program or The Marriage and Family Counseling programs (at the University of Alabama or elsewhere). These interns work under the supervision of the director of TCC, Dr. John Thorington. Interns are selected each year on the basis of competence and interest in serving the surrounding communities.

The mission of these counseling services is to meet the psychological needs of the community through individual therapy, group therapy and other outreach programs in conjunction with supervision. These interns are equipped to deal with individual, couple, or family therapy issues including crisis intervention, teen adjustment, and relationship problems. Group therapy may also be offered on a limited basis. In addition, interns may have the opportunity to design or be involved in other programs, which meet their unique training interests.

Qualifications of an Intern:

• Second year student in a counseling program (University of

Alabama, etc.)

• Basic understanding of theoretical orientations of counseling

• Effective clinical skills

• Sensitivity to multicultural issues

Community Benefit:

There is no cost for counseling with an intern. This is a benefit for those needing but unable to pay for services.
